But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Matthew 18:16
THE ARTICLE OF THE MONTH.
How meaningful is the last part of this statement!
"...for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these..."
It is very evident that trough this speech our blessed Lord Jesus is setting up an example of what everyone of his followers ought to be. "such as these" means: "as these children are".They trust in what we say and believe that. A child, male or female, is an universe of possibilities, they are paradigms of faith. They could do some wrestling fighting for a toy but after a couple of minutes they'll be playing together without bad feelings, they can easily forgive and reconciliate each other which is very difficult among adults. I think that this is why Jesus expressed his preference for them. Children are the garantee of a new generation, they are the perpetuation of the Church. Everytime I see children sitting around a Sunday school table I ussually wonders about how many pastors, evangelists, sunday school teachers, elders and deacons are there. To me, working with children in church is one of the most noble and important task that a true believer may carry out.It is a way to garantee, reassure, and proclaim the "everlastiness" of the church.
Amen!
